RACES’s Mary Evans turned a dull Halloween event completely around after attending just one do good training on special events. Using tips she learned in the two-hour session, she guided her board and staff in transforming an event that annually netted $900 into one that brought in nearly $7,000 in 2015.
The workshop more than paid for itself. With the welcomed new monies raised, we started our first-ever reserve fund, finally bought a database system, and now have the ability to create a strategic plan. I spent $19 and two hours on one do good workshop and turned it into $6,000 for my nonprofit. Believe me, I’ll be back for more.
Midwest Mission Distribution Center’s Chantel Corrie was pleasantly surprised in Spring 2015 when their last mailed appeal’s response rate shot up by nearly 40%.
It was an increase of $11,000 for our organization on just this one letter. My boss and board are very happy. These new funds are a direct result of the tips and advice I learned in do good’s nonprofit workshops.

The COVID-19 crisis is placing inordinate stress and need upon our nonprofits and their staff. In an effort to do my part to help, I have launched a new FREE program called Just-A-Call-Away.
Each week through April 2020 (and likely beyond), I will provide four free 1-hour consulting slots to organizations who need advice, a sounding board, or a helping hand with an issue or idea. We can talk through frustrations, brainstorm ideas, or collaborate on how best to address shifting needs. You name it. We can talk fundraising. Crisis management. Communications. Remote staffing challenges. Budget woes. You name it. We can do it by phone. By Zoom. By Messenger. You name it. Slots are offered on a first-come/first-serve basis.
Huth-Rhoades named Bradley U Entrepreneur-In-Residence
Laura Huth-Rhoades, President, CEO & Founder of do good Consulting, was tapped by Bradley University’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences to serve as 2015 Entrepreneur-in-Residence.
Huth-Rhoades has been creating social change-driven organizations and ventures since she was nine years old, when she founded the Spring Avenue Tribune with her younger brother and sister. The Tribune was an in-house produced newspaper serving the Spring Avenue block’s 20 neighbors and was created entirely by the Huth children. The newspaper ran for six years.
Since then, she founded a babysitting business called KinderCare that helped to put her through college, the nonprofit Illinois Student Environmental Network, do good Consulting, and a side cottage business, reCREATE, that offers interior design and outdoor living/gardening design services.
Huth-Rhoades visited Bradley in April 2015 to teach entrepreneurship classes, host office hours, attend roundtables and forums for students interested in entrepreneurship, and participate in panel discussions with Bradley staff.
She is a 1992 Political Science and Sociology graduate of Bradley, which is in Peoria, Illinois.
