President & CEO/Chief ChangeMaker

Laura Huth-Rhoades is an award-winning consultant who brings over 20 years of experience to nonprofits of all types working for positive social change.

While her two decades of experience make her a generalist with comprehensive nonprofit skills, Laura brings enhanced specialties in fundraising, communications and marketing, storytelling, and planning.

She is proficient at helping clients raise money to grow their causes, use storytelling to develop audiences and support, and build great communications tools like websites, social media, brochures, and other collateral pieces. She also enjoys helping them with special event assessments and professional coaching needs. A high-energy educator, Laura also loves to provide boards, staff, and volunteers with interactive, hands-on educational trainings.

Laura began her nonprofit career at age 24 by founding the Illinois Student Environmental Network, a statewide training organization serving Illinois’ college students. Ten years later, she became Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County where she turned the near-broke agency into an award-winning powerhouse using new fundraising, communications, reporting, and tracking strategies and systems. Laura also served as an elected member of the Urbana City Council, and co-founded several community groups, including one that won the Governor’s Hometown Award. She served as co-chair of the Institute for Nonprofit Leadership, an initiative to bring comprehensive and curriculum-driven training to central Illinois’ nonprofit leaders and their organizations.

It’s not unusual to find Laura in the kitchen at the end of the day fixing up something fancy. She loves to cook. You should ask her about the Chopped-style mystery ingredient challenges she hosts at her home, Chez Huth.

Laura and do good Consulting have been recognized as Woman of the Year, Small Business of the Year, and Outstanding Fundraising Executive by various entities across Central Illinois. She is also recognized as a United Way Difference Maker.

Laura began her work as an entrepreneur at the age of 10. This early start has allowed her to found or co-found six different nonprofits and businesses and still have time for other pursuits. A lot of this spare time is invested in her love of cooking and entertaining.

When she’s not out doing good, Laura loves to do landscaping and interior design. Here she mentors two young neighbors while remodeling the bathroom in her home.

These passions factor heavily in her latest endeavor as Creative Director & Project Manager for reCREATE, a small cottage business she owns that specializes in home remodeling, interior design, gardens, and small special events. She is also writing a book: a blend of humor and memoir that is sure to have you laughing, crying, and feeling inspired, sometimes all at once!

She and her husband, Tom, and their four cats live in Lowell, Michigan, just outside Grand Rapids.
