The Great Logo Makeover

AND THE WINNER IS....The Mahomet Area Youth Club.
Founded in 1994, the Mahomet Area Youth Club is a nonprofit organization based in central Illinois dedicated to encouraging and training young people in the Mahomet region to develop their talents to their full potential and to become responsible, productive citizens.
The organization provides a safe place for children to go to learn about arts, career development, sports, health, and provide community service. The Club serves approximately 100 youth per month between the ages of 6-18 with after-school, evening, and full time summer activities.
The Mahomet Area Youth Club is more than just a youth hang-out. The organization provides a plethora of programs to participating youth that are focused on character and leadership development, life skills, health and nutrition, creative arts and expression, and sports and recreation.
Previously, the Mahomet Area Youth Club's logo looked like this:
Through the Great Logo Makeover, do good Consulting worked over the summer of 2008 to transform the mark of the Youth Club to more accurately reflect the important work they do.
In June, our graphic design team began the process by sketching out some ideas for the new logo. Here are a few from the early stages of their sketch work and brainstorming:
On July 7 , do good met with the Mahomet Area Youth Club to show them our first round of ideas. The meeting was a good one and the client liked our presentation. Lee and Mary Vita from the Club (at right) made some suggestions on colors, font, and placement of images, which we were expecting. They were very excited by the progress! Here is what some of our first round logo ideas looked like:
We unveiled second round revisions in mid-July and from that meeting, had direction on how to proceed to a final product. Here's one example of round two's logos:
On Tuesday, August 11, we made our final presentation to the MAYC Board of Directors. This is the logo presented for their consideration:
The board voted unanimously in favor of accepting the new logo.
“Getting a new logo means much more than an updated graphic,” said MAYC Executive Director Mary Vita Rosmarino. “Our new logo will be used to help us communicate our organization’s mission and the community and customers we serve. It will make a huge difference in our work, and as a result, in the lives of Mahomet area kids.”
The Great Logo Makeover is a program of do good Consulting. We believe that a logo speaks volumes about an organization. A well-designed, sleek aesthetic communicates to audiences that your organization is well-managed, fiscally responsible, and effective. And today more than ever, it is critical that your logo accurately and clearly communicates your message to your donors.
do good Consulting's work with the Mahomet Area Youth Club was done at no charge to the Club. Each year, one qualifiying nonprofit organization will have the chance for such a free logo makeover. Check back in April 2010 for your chance for a free organizational logo makeover!
